Kamaole 1 Beach Clean-Up Project
Where we start. The Kamaole 1 Beach Clean-Up Pilot Project is the first initiative of the Kamaole Ahupuaʻa Environment Restoration & Management Plan (ERMP). We're identifying key stakeholders, building partnerships, developing long-term funding mechanisms, establishing metrics, and inspiring the next generation to care for the ahupuaʻa from ridge to reef.
The project focuses on reducing runoff and sedimentation from heavy rainfall at Drainage 2 — the channel that flows under Highway 31 and through the lower neighborhoods to Kamaole 1 Beach — and on improving water quality by upgrading the Kīhei Wastewater Treatment Plant and replacing cesspools within the project boundaries.
